It's time for real talk on our relationships with work, power and inclusion
Hey all, welcome to One Hundred Forty-Six Percent, a weekly newsletter focusing on our relationships with work, power and inclusion. The title of the newsletter comes from the last full-time job I had in the corporate world. My team hit their revenue goal, shit we destroyed it, clocking in at 146% to goal. A few weeks after receiving that official number, I was laid off.
The number is a reminder to me that people of color in the corporate workforce can go above and beyond expectations, yet still be told they are “not exceptional.” We can work for years thinking we are doing everything right to earn the promotion only to see the goalposts moved. Each week, I will tackle a new issue and hope to spark conversations that turn into real action.
